Home Depot has come out with the Business Tool Box.  At first, it seemed like a pretty good deal for contractors to save a lot of money on business services.  So I signed up to take a closer look at the benefits and it turned out to be a typical “package of discounts” like the NASE or millions of other discount packages out there.  I’ll focus on the health insurance part of it.

The Home Depot Business Toolbox just redirects you to a company called “BenefitProtect”.  It’s supposed to be a health insurance broker, but the only Colorado health insurance company I was able to get quotes for was Assurant/Time.  And since health insurance is required by the Colorado Division of Insurance to be sold at the same price no matter where you buy it, you’re better off comparing many different companies with an actual broker.

The rest of the services are just discounts on cell phone service, payroll processing, office supplies, etc.  The discounts are usually pretty small and require you to buy a certain number of cell phones or so many years of a contract.
