Mullets, Cotton Candy, and Ringtoss…

Yup, it’s carnival time!

Yesterday, Emily of The Antidote hosted a very well written Grand Rounds.  She included Louise’s article “Wasting Health Care Dollars”.  She comments…

Colorado Health Insurance Insider bemoans the waste of money from “routine” childbirth procedures like episiotomy (no longer recommended as a routine procedure, by the way) and unindicated cesarean sections. (I’d add that the docs blithely disregarding prior discussions with moms in these cases is pretty egregious as well.)

Very interesting, I wasn’t aware of the news about episiotomies.

And today, Michael Cannon of Cato @ Liberty came up with a great Cavalcade of Risk.  The Colorado Health Insurance Insider made this edition with my previous article “Health Insurance Invites Waste“.  Part of Mr. Cannon’s commentary on the article…

I mostly agree. But if Jay can find a health insurance policy that “cost[s] the employer more than 2x what a similar individual/family health insurance plan will cost,” he either must be suuuuper healthy or have really sick co-workers.

Most people don’t understand that in Colorado, health insurance cannot be underwritten for groups of 1, or on groups of 2 to 50.  That is mainly what makes group health insurance in Colorado so much more expensive compared to individual/family plans, which are underwritten.

Readers of The Colorado Health Insurance Insider are frequently directed to InsureBlog for more interesting opinions.  This weeks Cavalcade of Risk included an interview with CoR and InsureBlog founder Hank Stern.
