Tax and Spend

August 2, 2007 By Jay Norris

Colorado Representative Tom Tancredo criticized the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) bill because, “it removes a requirement that children in the plan show proof of citizenship.”

Again, the Democrats have proven their loyalty to illegal aliens over American citizens, Tancredo said.

Sounds logical, right?  We don’t want children of illegal immigrants taking advantage of our health insurance programs.

According to a study by the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform, the federal government saves just 14 cents in SCHIP benefits for every $100 it spends to check documentation.

Oh.  I wonder if Tancredo knew that, or if he thinks we should actually spend $100 to save 14 cents?  It is a hot button issue, but shouldn’t we be electing our representatives to spend our tax dollars wisely?

If I didn’t know better, I’d think this Tancredo guy just had some sort of a bias against illegal immigrants….
